ICELAND OPENS IN BENIDORM!
ICELAND OPENS IN BENIDORM!
(Benidorm) WOW - Iceland in Benidorm!" Ok Ok, so if you’re here on holiday you probably won’t get quite as excited about this HUGE news as us locals...and that’s because you’re surrounded by dozens of supermarkets at home whose shelves are packed with all your favourite British flavours. But to us locals this is fantastic news! Open a month now, the rumour mill has actually been in full swing for more than 2 years since an Iceland store opened in Benissa some 40 minutes up the coast. As excited as we were at the time, 40 minutes trek for a pound of bacon and some jammie dodgers quickly became a bit of a chore - and we all ended up buying more stuff than our household freezers could hold "to make the journey worthwhile" and trips became few and far between....or not at all for those relying on public transport. But all that’s changed now, we’ve our very own Iceland right on our doorstep we can pop in and out as often as we like for as little or as much as we like. Roundtown went along and spoke to deputy store manager Penny to find out how they’re getting on... “Fabulous!” Was the simple answer to that one! “We knew that there was a terrific call for an Iceland store here, after the success of our store in Benissa, but we have been overwhelmed by the sheer number of people that have come through the doors”. Penny added that…“We all know that Iceland doesn’t just sell frozen foods, but here, we have a massive stock of all sorts of items from home things that people really miss”. (Even “Mr Kipling” was well represented!) Penny explained how they have weekly special offers, on top of their already low prices. In fact, it was nice to see that they hadn’t put a huge mark up on their UK prices. The scrummy BBQ packs, of juicy prawns, kebabs and chicken we bought to test, were certainly good value, and will certainly be on the shopping list again, on our next visit! So whether you’re here on holiday and missing your marmite, or live locally and want to stock up AND save money, pop along to the new Iceland. It’s located on the retail park behind Benidorm. By car from Benidorm take the N332 main road in the direction of Alicante, take the “Hypermarket” exit and it’s on the first exit of the roundabout, on your right, with a huge car park right in front. By bus, from Benidorm, catch the “Carrefour” bus (number 12, every 15 mins, from various places) it stops right outside the store, or by train, from either the Alicante or Altea direction. (Every 30 minutes) Get off at the stop named “Hiper Finistrat”, and it’s a 2 minute stroll, towards the roundabout where the store is situated. Easy!! (Don’t forget that Iceland sell for just a few Euros, insulated bags, to help you get your food home easily)
