New Roof for Roman Remains
New Roof for Roman Remains
(Benidorm) If you’re wondering what’s going on around the Roman remains in Albir, Roundtown can tell you!
The town hall is building a 400m2 protective covering for the archeological site because its current exposure to the elements and sea salt is damaging the precious remains. So, a metal structure a bit like those used for the stages at concerts is being built and will be covered in tarpaulin and inside there will be 160m of walkways, so locals and tourists can enjoy guided tours. Some of the paths will even be suspended, with glass underfoot so you can get a better view of the layout of this important roman settlement that dates back to around 4th century AD. The structure should be finished in time for Easter 2011 and the total cost of 600,000 euros was mostly paid for thanks to a government grant of 411,000 euros.
