HAVE YOUR SAY!
HAVE YOUR SAY!
(Benidorm)  Expats can vote in the local Spanish elections provided they have registered their intention to vote* and with the elections just months away, local politicians have turned their attention to the many expats in the area, anxious to earn our vote. So Roundtown is collating an election ‘wish list’; a list of all the things we’d like to see changed or improved in our area. Here are what some of December’s readers ‘wish’ for…

Sheila.
Meet Sheila, from the well known money exchange in the indoor market. Sheila loves the weather and the beautiful scenery, but doesn’t like the increasing number of all inclusive hotels in town!
She would ban them all! And yes, she is registered to vote.

Joan lives in Albir and runs the “Nova 86” store in the indoor market. Joan loves all the shops in town but doesn’t agree with the high charges she has to pay for rubbish collection as a business.
She would like to see the town hall more helpful, with advising and assisting new businesses. She is registered to vote.

Tom lives in Polop and works in Carpe Diem in Albir.
Tom loves the carefree, relaxing atmosphere of Albir and his only complaint would be to improve the state of some of the road surfaces. He is registered to vote.

Abbey lives in Alfaz and owns the Ex Pats Mini Mart in Alfaz.
Abbey likes the fact that Alfaz is a very friendly village, where everybody knows everybody but she would like to see a wider range of shops, and shelter in the kids play areas. Shade for the summer, and cover against rain in the winter. She is registered to vote.

Rudy lives in Alfaz and owns Rudy’s music shop.
Rudy loves the atmosphere in the village, but doesn’t like how all the shops close on Saturday afternoons. He would like the town hall to help small businesses more with perhaps promotions of what the village has to offer. He is registered to vote.

Sue lives in Finestrat and works in the "second chance" shop in Finistrat

Sue thinks that the town hall in the village is extremely helpful,
but thinks that there is a lack of parking available in the village.
She is registered to vote.

Howard is the new owner of the "Raconet" bar in Finestrat

He loves the village! It’s peaceful and relaxing but with a huge shortage of single women! He would like to see improvements to the health facilities in the village.
He is registered to vote.

Amy  lives in Alfaz
Amy runs the Crash Bang Wallop bargain goods store in the indoor market. She loves the sunshine, and the fact that there is a lot to do in Benidorm! She doesn’t like being bothered by street beggars and would like more street cleaning. Amy is not quite old enough to vote this time!

Anita lives in Finestrat

Anita loves the village atmosphere of Finistrat, with its great mix of people of all nationalities but she would like to see an improved bus service to and from the village and improve services at the doctor’s surgery.

Phil lives in Benidorm and runs the Regent Bar.

Phil loves the nightlife in town but he is not happy with the amount of dog mess in the street, and also would like to see more help with interpreters in the health centres. If he could change anything, he would stop the spread of all inclusive hotels.
He is registered to vote.

June and Lees work in Rays II fish & chip shop Benidorm
They love the beautiful weather but feel Benidorm needs more “Quality” shops in the Rincon area and a fairer sharer of the fiestas, in other words have more events in the Rincon area, and not so much in the old town.

Email your views to add on our wish list to mail@roundtown.info stating your name, your ‘wish’ and which town you reside in.

*If you live here and are over 18 you can vote but you must register your intention to vote in the town hall before 15th January. Our collective voice makes a difference and this is our chance to have our say, let’s not waste it.
