Brought to us by the fabulous Ian Oogly – the original voice of Cool fm – it’s a nostalgic trip down memory lane for all of us who were 80’s chicks and chaps, playing non-stop hits from the era of big hair.  From early 80’s new romantic lip glossed groups like Duran Duran, and string vest lovers Bananarama … right up to the Stock, Aitken & Waterman musical creations of the latter end of the decade.

Being an 80’s chick myself, we’ve already been listening to Totally 80’s in the Roundtown Times office and love the catchy sing-along tunes of the decade that launched musical Gods like Madness and Madonna, Simple Minds and Spandau Ballet, Kylie and Kajagoogoo (Ok, so Kajagoogoo weren’t exactly Gods but we thought so at the time!)  To my daughters’ eternal disgust I have no idea who sings what these days yet listening to totally 80’s I’m empowered – because not only do I know the name of the groups but also all the words to the songs! (Even the commercials are from the 80’s which is kind of disconcerting as I remember the words to those too!)

The launch party for Totally 80’s is being held at the Tavern Music Pub in the Rincon de Loix in Benidorm, opposite the Roundtown offices on Saturday 4th February from 8pm. Everyone is welcome to enjoy the fun and a glass of Bucks Fizz (what else?!) and there will be competitions to win Totally 80s merchandise, plus giveaways, head to head challenges playing classic Space Invaders, Pacman and Asteroids on the big screen, a rubik cube challenge, a pop quiz and much more. (Feel free to wear big shoulder pads, white stilettos and clashing colours!)

But if you can’t make the party, fear not, just turn the dial to 88.4fm to tune into Totally 80’s. The day kicks off with the greatest ever breakfast presenter since the fabulous DLT (well the greatest in Benidorm) the fabulous Ian ‘I’m so chirpy in the morning it makes you sick’ Oogly (only joking Ian!) from 9am till midday and there is a selection of specialized shows over the week – like rock shows, one hit wonders, soul shows etc … and luurve songs from midnight till 2am.
