Hiring a Car?
Hiring a Car?
(Benidorm) More and more people are hiring cars whilst on holiday. But whilst most people take to it naturally, others find it quite a strain to pluck up courage to even have a go! I have heard people say that they cannot change gear with the right hand, or that they would get their feet confused, but it’s really not that hard and like most things our fear is fuelled by the un-known, so why not hire a car and give it a go? So now you’ve got your car, what are the differences you should be aware of when you hit the roads? Well obviously, vehicles drive on the opposite side of the road to those in the UK but you will very soon get used to this – just remember, as the driver, you should be close to the middle of the road – not the kerb. Roundabouts are relatively knew to Spain and should be approached with extreme caution as most Spaniards will only use the outside lane – regardless of the exit they will be taking. Generally the roads are very good in Spain. Driving in the bigger towns is a little daunting – but isn’t it in any ‘foreign’ town – in Britain or abroad? And once you vacate Benidorm, the traffic thins out pretty quickly and you’ll be amazed at the change of scenery. Within minutes you’ll be surrounded by fruit orchards inland, or if you’re heading along the coast you’ll discover numerous hidden beaches. So go on, give it a try! Most car hire companies will provide you with a map, and the roads are very well signposted, it’s just a case of choosing a destination and hitting the open road. With so many beautiful places to discover – not to mention the rustic roadside restaurants, your holiday just won’t be long enough! But then again, there’s always next time…… |
