Ryanair scraps check in desks
(Benidorm)  Airlines have been encouraging passengers to check in for flights online for some time now to save them money and us queuing times. But Irish budget airline Ryanair are removing the option to check in at the airport altogether from October 1st – and between now and then they plan to make some big bucks from those who continue to opt for airport check in. From May 1st it will cost you a hefty £20 to choose the airport check- in option when booking and if you don’t pay then but just turn up at the airport to check in the traditional way check-in desk, the fees double to a whopping £40!

Ryanair is doing away with check-in desks to save money, yet it has introduced a new ’web check-in fee’ of £5 per person. Recently paid only by those with hold baggage, from May 1st it will be charged to all bookings except promotional fares. ’This £5 charge will help Ryanair to reduce its cost base and reduce fares, including this new charge, even further.’ Said Ryaniar. What???!
Book with Ryanair from May 1 and you’ll have no choice but to check in via www.ryanair.com and print your boarding card yourself .
Online check-in can be completed up to 15 days before you travel. So, if your trip is a fortnight or less and you anticipate not having access to the internet while abroad, check in for your return flight at the same time as your outbound one.
You must check in on line at least 4 hours before flying, don’t leave it till the last minute and when you get to the airport, you take your hold bags to a ’drop desk’ (where there may still be a queue!).
